Nile Extravaganza 10N/11D

Day 1: Arrival in Cairo

  • Arrive at Cairo International Airport.
  • Transfer to your hotel in Cairo and check-in.
  • Rest and relax to overcome jet lag.

Day 2: Exploring Cairo

  • Start the day with a visit to the Giza Plateau, located on the outskirts of Cairo.
  • Explore the Pyramids of Giza, including the Great Pyramid of Khufu, Pyramid of Khafre, and Pyramid of Menkaure. Optionally, you can enter one of the pyramids.
  • Visit the enigmatic Sphinx, located near the pyramids.
  • Afterward, head to the nearby Solar Boat Museum to see the reconstructed solar boat of Khufu. In the afternoon, visit the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, home to a vast collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts, including the treasures of Tutankhamun.
  • Optional: Explore the vibrant Khan El Khalili Bazaar, known for its shops selling souvenirs, spices, jewelry, and more.

Day 3: Memphis, Saqqara, and Islamic Cairo

  • Start the day by visiting the ancient city of Memphis, the capital of ancient Egypt, where you can see the statue of Ramses II and the Alabaster Sphinx. Continue to Saqqara, home to the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the oldest stone pyramid in Egypt, and explore the surrounding complex.
  • Return to Cairo and explore Islamic Cairo, including the historic district of Al-Muizz Street, where you can visit the impressive Sultan Hassan Mosque and the Al-Rifa'i Mosque.
  • Visit the beautiful and historic Al-Azhar Mosque and immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of the area.

Day 4: Fly to Luxor and East Bank Visit

  • Fly from Cairo to Luxor.
  • After arrival, check-in at your Luxor hotel.
  • Start exploring the East Bank of Luxor, including the Karnak Temple Complex, one of the largest religious sites in the world, with its impressive temples and obelisks.
  • Visit Luxor Temple, located in the heart of Luxor city and beautifully illuminated at night.

Day 5: West Bank Visit and Luxor Museum

  • Cross the Nile to the West Bank of Luxor.
  • Explore the Valley of the Kings, where you can visit several royal tombs, including the famous tomb of Tutankhamun (additional ticket required).
  • Visit the Temple of Hatshepsut, a spectacular mortuary temple dedicated to the female pharaoh Hatshepsut. See the Colossi of Memnon, two massive statues representing Pharaoh Amenhotep III.
  • Return to the East Bank and visit the Luxor Museum, showcasing a collection of artifacts from the Luxor area.

Day 6: Optional Hot Air Balloon Ride and Aswan

  • Start the day with an optional hot air balloon ride over Luxor, offering breathtaking views of the city and the ancient sites (weather permitting, additional cost).
  • Afterward, transfer to Aswan by road or take a Nile cruise.
  • Check-in at your Aswan hotel or cruise ship.
  • Enjoy a relaxing evening in Aswan, taking in the scenic views of the Nile River.

Day 7: Aswan Sightseeing

  • Visit the Aswan High Dam, an impressive engineering marvel controlling the flow of the Nile River.
  • Explore the beautiful Philae Temple, dedicated to the goddess Isis. It was relocated to Agilkia Island to save it from flooding caused by the construction of the High Dam.
  • Take a boat ride to the serene Elephantine Island and visit the Nubian Village, where you can experience the local culture and traditions.

Day 8: Optional Abu Simbel Excursion and Nile Cruise

  • Take an optional day trip to Abu Simbel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring the magnificent temples of Ramses II and Nefertari (additional cost).
  • Return to Aswan and board a Nile cruise ship.
  • Set sail along the Nile River and enjoy the scenic views and onboard amenities.

Day 9: Kom Ombo and Edfu Temples

  • Stop at Kom Ombo and visit the unique Kom Ombo Temple, dedicated to both the falcon-headed god Horus and the crocodile god Sobek.
  • Continue sailing to Edfu and explore the Edfu Temple, one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt, dedicated to the falcon god Horus.

Day 10: Luxor Temples and Return to Luxor

  • Sail back to Luxor.
  • Visit the Luxor Temple again, exploring its grandeur during daylight.
  • Take a leisurely walk along the Nile Corniche, the riverfront promenade in Luxor. Return to your Luxor hotel or Nile cruise ship.

Day 11: Optional Hot Air Balloon Ride and Departure

  • Start the day with an optional hot air balloon ride over Luxor for one last aerial view of the ancient city (additional cost).
  • Depending on your departure time, you may have some free time for shopping or additional sightseeing.
  • Transfer to Luxor International Airport for your departure.
